Register your address (Anmeldung)

By law you must register within 14 days of moving in. In Munich the Bürgerbüro handles it — the certificate (Meldebescheinigung) unlocks tax ID, bank and residence permit.

1. 1Book a Bürgerbüro appointment

   Book online via the city's appointment portal — any Bürgerbüro in Munich works. Slots open in the morning; check daily. The registration is free.

2. 2Get the landlord confirmation

   Your landlord (or main tenant) must sign the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung. Your rental contract alone is not enough.

3. 3Attend and get your Meldebescheinigung

   Bring passport, the signed Wohnungsgeberbestätigung and the registration form. You receive the Meldebescheinigung on the spot.
